Rishi Kund: The Hidden Power Beneath a Sacred Himalayan Pond”

The Secret of Rishi Kund

Punyapur village. A tranquil settlement nestled in the Himalayas, surrounded by lush greenery. A sacred river flows beside the village, and on its bend lies an ancient pond called Rishi Kund (Sage's Pond). Legend has it that ages ago, the sage Vishwamitra performed penance on the banks of this pond. The pond's water is crystal clear, and its depth is said to be unfathomable. Villagers believe that on Amavasya (new moon) nights, a divine light emanates from this pond, guiding lost souls. However, some villagers also claim that this light is actually the terrifying glow from the eyes of a demon hidden in the pond's depths.

Abinash, a young man from Punyapur, is twenty-five years old. He's a researcher, specializing in ancient scripts and myths. He enjoys hearing these village legends, but a scientific mind guides him. He believes there's a practical reason behind every myth. Tonight is Amavasya. Abinash set out for Rishi Kund with his camera and some equipment. His goal: to unravel the mystery of that divine light or the demon's eye.

The moon hadn't risen. The sky was covered in thick, dark clouds, devoid of stars. A profound silence enveloped everything. Only the gentle gurgle of the river and the chirping of crickets from the forest could be heard. As Abinash reached Rishi Kund, a shiver ran down his spine. The pond's water appeared even darker in the gloom.

Abinash sat by the pond's edge, arranging his equipment. Suddenly, a faint glimmer of light appeared deep within the water. The light was small at first, then gradually grew larger. A green glow illuminated the pond's water. Abinash prepared his camera.

The light grew brighter. An unusual humming sound emanated from the pond's water, just like the chanting of mantras! Abinash watched in awe as the green light began to take on a human form. A tall, serene male figure. His face was calm, but his eyes emitted an extraordinary luminescence.

Abinash's heart pounded. Was this the form of Sage Vishwamitra himself? Was he truly witnessing a divine apparition? He remembered what everyone in the village said: that this pond possessed miraculous powers.

The figure spoke no words, merely gazing at Abinash with its radiant eyes. There was no fear in its gaze, but rather a profound sense of peace and wisdom. Abinash felt as if the figure wanted to tell him something.

Suddenly, the figure extended its hand and pointed towards the pond's water. Abinash looked into the pond. He saw something deep within the water. A faint path that descended into the depths. It seemed as if the figure was urging him to follow that path.

Abinash was filled with indecision. Should he follow this unseen path? Was it a divine message, or a danger? His scientific mind urged him to stop, but his inner curiosity propelled him forward.

Just then, the green light momentarily turned red. The figure's eyes also seemed to turn a terrifying red for an instant. A monstrous roar echoed in his ears, just like the call of a wild beast! Abinash was startled. Was this the glow of a demon's eye? Was he seeing things?

The light returned to green. The figure reverted to its serene form. But fear had crept into Abinash's mind. What was the secret of this pond? Was it a sacred place for deities, or a demon's lair?

Abinash decided not to take any more risks. He gathered his equipment and quickly moved away from the pond's edge. He knew that delving deeper into this mystery was beyond him. He understood that some things should be left with their own secrets.

The next morning, Abinash went to Pandit Haricharan Mishra, the village elder. Abinash recounted all the events of the night: the green light figure, its gesture, and the momentary red light and monstrous roar.

Pandit Mishra listened in silence for a while. Then, with a sigh, he said, "The two things you encountered, Abinash, are two different aspects of the same entity."

Abinash looked at him in surprise. "What do you mean?"

Pandit Mishra explained, "Rishi Kund is the place where Sage Vishwamitra performed his penance. Due to his asceticism, a divine power resides in this pond, which appears as the green light. This power grants liberation to lost souls and guides seekers of knowledge on the right path."

"But what about that red light and the roar?" Abinash asked.

"That demon came to disrupt Sage Vishwamitra's penance," Pandit Mishra explained. "The sage defeated it and imprisoned it in the depths of the pond. But some of that demon's power still remains deep within the pond. Whenever someone approaches that divine power, the demon's energy tries to confuse and frighten them, to keep them away from the divine contact."

"So what was that figure gesturing to me?" Abinash inquired.

"The figure was gesturing towards the hidden, esoteric knowledge deep within the pond," Pandit Mishra said. "Had you followed that path, you would have encountered a profound spiritual realization. But the demon's power instilled fear in you, so you couldn't attain that knowledge. You are fortunate that you managed to compose yourself. Because while the path to such knowledge can lead to liberation, if one fails to overcome fear, it can also lead to destruction."

That day, Abinash understood the profound depth of the world's mysteries. Behind every myth lies a deep meaning, which can only be comprehended through faith and courage. The secret of Rishi Kund gave Abinash's life a new direction. He learned that to gain true knowledge, one needs not only logic

but also spirituality.
